Easy Life, Daydreams
Island Records

Easy Life are easy to love – their flawless formula of equal parts chill beats, laidback delivery, seamlessly down-to-earth lyrics and a fair dose of emotion means that you can trust every Easy Life tune to be an easy-going banger, and latest cut Daydreams is no different.

Their trademark wobbly synths underpin the track, weaving through hints of piano and flickering electro-punctuation. Daydreams suits its title to a T, moody and hazy, yet somehow both surreal and hyper-grounded. The surreal side comes from the blue-tinged shimmering instrumental and a handful of vocal effects that see Murray Matravers’ mellow delivery waved up a suitable amount.

As ever, though, the lyricism is so anchored in tiny real-life details that it’s impossible not to be immersed. Slick, fluid rhymes like “say it’s over / so I can get busy getting sober / we used to get busy on my sofa” punctuate the whole track, enticing you along as Matravers spins his web of the hyper-mundane, spiralling somehow into the daydream along the way.

Daydreams joins a handful of other 2020 Easy Life releases including the woozy, funky Junk Food mixtape and the see you later, maybe never (demos), and the quality is consistent. Easy Life continue to deliver the coolest grooves, so fingers crossed there’s more coming before the year is out.

Daydreams is out now.
