Public Body, Hard To Concentrate
Independent

In the midst of the post-post-punk musical surge of jagged guitars and stinging lyricism, Public Body are appearing with a clear message of intent. From the collectiveness of their band name to their incisive lyrical looks into the everyday, they’re looking at the world in 4k and tearing it to shreds. Ahead of next year’s EP, titled Flavour of Labour and set to soundtrack the bitter taste of the world of work, Public Body have given us a groove in latest single Hard to Concentrate.

It’s a fitting title, for sure, with the hyperactive musical layers constantly jumping around in the instrumentals of the track. From the first sunny guitar riff to the meandering bassline, Hard to Concentrate really does feel like a sonic daydream as Seb Gilmore muses through the disjointed ruminations of the lyrics. His sardonic talk-singing jars against the jauntiness of the guitar lines, aptly unsettling and expertly conveying the exact kind of boredom and mental unrest that Hard to Concentrate is addressing.

Hard to Concentrate follows up previous single Formica, which is an equally deft handling of the trials and tribulations of office life, with the energy amped up to a dizzy eleven. Public Body’s pacey insistence is a refreshingly unforgiving look at the drudgery of the day-to-day in a way that makes it all feel a little more light-hearted, and Flavour of Labour looks to be essential listening for this very reason.

Flavour of Labour is out next March.
