Calva Louise teased us last year – their POPURRÍ EP was a tornado of their noisiest, most ferocious tunes yet, and Trial and Strange Bones collab Nine Lives snuck out later in the year to introduce the messy, explosive, beast that Calva have become even more. And now it’s finally time for a new album. Euphoric is due out in August, and it looks set to be a wild ride of Calva Louise’s biggest, best yet.

Latest single Other Self does not pause, it does not let up, not for a second. The guitars have dipped through indie, into electro, and on Other Self they hit full-on rock territory with a teeth-grindingly intense riff that spirals away under the song for almost the whole runtime. The frenetic instrumentals strike a dangerous balance with Jess Allanic’s hypnotically drawn-out vocals, dialing the sparks up from Tiranito alongside a guitar solo that howls straight out of the 2000s golden age of emo-rock.

Tiranito, the single that introduced the world to Euphoric, is just as fierce but in a more restrained way. The vocals hiss and purr between Spanish and English, erupting alongside the electrifying grind of bass and drums to remind us that Calva Louise tell us when we’re allowed to go crazy. These songs are going to sound insane live – bring on August’s handful of dates with Strange Bones, and autumn’s full-on tour.

Euphoric is out August 20th.
