Artist of the Moment – April 2021: Courting

Band Of The Moment

Courting’s debut EP Grand National is on the brink of release, and it’s one of the most exciting sets of tunes hitting the airwaves. With its post-punk-meets-camp riffs, its snippy lyricism, and its delightful refusal to take itself seriously, it’s a formidable statement for a debut EP. What makes Courting so exciting, though, is the fact that they’re moving forward at such an exponential rate – they’re challenging expectations with their sound, with their subject matter, and everything in between.

The EP is fantastic – that’s a given. But even that is Courting of a year ago… we suspect if Courting recorded Grand National now it may well be unrecognisable. Chatting with them and hearing about their wealth of influences and directions for their sound has built hype for Grand National and beyond, and promised that their development is going to be stratospheric.

The reputation of guitar music takes a fair few hits. But with Courting powering through, claiming the label and making magic with it, we’re reminded why it’s worth loving.

Grand National is out Friday 9th April.
