Black Honey, I Like The Way You Die
Foxfive Records

Just in time for Halloween, Black Honey have released another teaser from their upcoming sophomore record Written & Directed, and it’s as stompingly cinematic as we know and love the band to be. In keeping with previous singles Beaches and Run For Cover, ILTWYD is a total gargantuan of fierce indie-rock, and continues to prepare us for an album guaranteed to be a feature-length injection of adrenaline come January.

Run For Cover was a pulsing, rapid-fire explosion of sound, but I Like The Way You Die reigns it in for a magnetically pounding grunge-rock anthem. Cult-like percussion and fuzzed-up vocals are unmistakeably Black Honey in their nods to nostalgia with a characteristically thrilling twist. BH have worked with Royal Blood on the album, and it shows here – venomous, swaggering basslines pin the track down with ferocious intent.

Black Honey’s aesthetic (visual and sonic) remains impeccable – though it’s huge on its own, I Like The Way You Die’s video takes the track to new levels of delicious bloodlust: vampires, women in white who are fanged bad bitches instead of damsels in distress. Their previous sunny Americana aesthetics have been staked through the heart, in lieu of Motown-meets-Transylvania, and it’s formidable to behold.

Black Honey have been sitting comfortably on their indie-rock throne since before their debut even came out, but they never stop slicing away the boundaries and become more than just a rock band. They’ve literally put blood, sweat, and tears into Written & Directed, and it shows – I Like The Way You Die sees them continue to own their spotlight. They’re the most Black Honey they’ve ever been, and their power won’t even be fully revealed till the record comes out.

Written & Directed is out January 29th.
