Walt Disco, Hey Boy (You’re One Of Us)
Blood Records

Explosive, effervescent, and utterly surreal: Walt Disco have released a video for their latest track Hey Boy (You’re One Of Us), and we’re in rapture. The video’s aquatic concept was described by the band as “fun and also sexy”, in keeping with their entire discography which is set to be extended with the group’s debut EP Young Hard and Handsome, out September 30th.

Hey Boy (You’re One Of Us)’s choral, hazy intro does little to prepare you for the eruption that is to follow. Careening drums, a bassline so powerful this could be art-pop Royal Blood, and fizzing synths make for an out-of-control ferris wheel of a song, dizzy with 80s sci-fi sound effects and punching, rasping vocals. Forget New Wave, Walt Disco are a new tsunami of white-hot effortless cool. Never have a band sounded so simultaneously glamorous and gritty.

Hey Boy (You’re One Of Us) follows on from April’s Cut Your Hair, a hypnotic cacophony that’s as intensely danceable as it is ridiculously entertaining. Vocalist James Power is a frontman to be reckoned with, his inimitable over-the-topness managing to somehow feel as natural is it is dramatic. The quality and relentless energy across Cut Your Hair and Hey Boy (You’re One Of Us) are sure signs of a band going places, so there’s no doubt about it – Walt Disco’s debut EP is going to be a shiny, unpredictable, unclassifiable riot.

Young Hard and Handsome is out September 30th.
