Iamkyami, Internet Friends
Heist or Hit

In the mystical world of the internet, our social circles can overwhelm us and freak us out as much as they can blossom – iamkyami delves into the two sides of the coin on latest cut Internet Friends. It’s a dreamy intro for those who haven’t fallen in love already with Ky’s ethereal pop-rnb, and comes alongside the news of their new EP too, titled The Kenny Klubhouse and due out at the end of April.

Internet Friends toes the line between melancholy and anxiety and cosy comfort in the most evocative possible way for its subject matter. With lyrics about Zoom and Yoga With Adrienne, iamkyami grounds these tidbits of grounded reality in a bubbly, soft fizz of synths and SFX and swaying vocal layers, ensuring that the otherworld of the Internet comes across as sweet – not sinister, as it would be so easy to seem. Through a bright instrumental backdrop and Ky’s silky vocals, we’re read a love letter to all the little moments online that build up our days and our relationships.

There are moments of blueness, punctuating the track with subtle anxiety and hints of uncertainty, but the overall effect is ethereal and hazy – a snapshot of the idyllic ‘bubble of the internet’, the lonely moments outside of it too, but keeping it breezy. iamkyami’s knack for a tune is evident, and The Kenny Klubhouse looks set to make their stamp on the alt-pop world as 2022 essential listening.

The Kenny Klubhouse is out 29th April.
