Sea Girls, Ready For More
Polydor Records

Sea Girls had a pretty solid 2019 – their sunny energy saw them through a spring and summer of releases and festival appearances so well that their autumn tour felt almost like a victory lap, packing out rooms with a well-cemented legion of fans. With the release of Ready For More, Sea Girls are taking over the winter too, helping us through these dark blue days with unlimited warmth.

From their rougher-cut, riff-heavy days, Sea Girls get tighter as a band with every release. Violet’s arena-sized intro in summer was just a hint at the room-filling power that London four-piece are generating in Ready For More. The pedal-note-led verses, drums that propel the track through vocal harmonies and absolute top-of-your-lungs-singalong hooks and bridges make for a track that reaches into your heart and gives it a squeeze before pulling you well and truly into the Sea Girls hype.

But as characteristically infectious and upbeat RFM sounds, its lyrics don’t flinch from dealing with personal topics in a wonderfully vulnerable, accessible way. It doesn’t get too abstract, it’s very much a confessional track with lyrics like “I keep on saying yes but it’s bad for my brain” that, in typical Sea Girls style, can’t help but hit home because of their simplicity.

If RFM has moved you, you’ll be as excited as we are that Sea Girls’ next EP, Under Exit Lights, is out in March, and seeing as they’ve not released a single song that isn’t an unadulterated banger, we’re not hopeful – we’re confident. And we’re also confident that the Under Exit Lights tour is going to be straight-up incredible – 2019’s tours may have been your last chance to see the band in really intimate venues, but if you want to catch Sea Girls during what’s certain to be THEIR year, snatch up tickets ASAP.

Ready For More is out now, and tickets for upcoming shows are available here.
