Seprona, Phone Me Back
The Animal Farm

The fallout of a drunken blowout has never sounded as good as it does on Seprona’s latest, Phone Me Back. The Liverpool indies’ latest single is an angsty, shimmering banger that encapsulates the all-too-familiar tale of regret in a pink-glitter package, well worthy of the comparisons Seprona have often garnered to emotional 80s-tinged indie icons Blossoms.

The intensity of Phone Me Back sways through the moodiness of the verses into the anthemic chorus, aptly evoking the highs and lows of drunken confrontation and the ensuing damage control. The hypnotic instrumental melodies underpin the melancholy flow of the vocals, fluid and imploring as singer Daniel Badger delivers the chorus “phone me back, phone me back, I didn’t want to go, I was confused, cold, drunk, and alone”. The lyricism is down to earth and painstaking for it, and juxtaposed against the ethereal moments in the musical backdrop, it vividly creates the misty hungover world of Phone Me Back.

Seprona know how to make a bop – Phone Me Back’s dark hooks, woozy guitar solos, and groovy atmosphere are definitely the makings of a proper banger. The rest of 2021 is looking up for them, with more singles on the way – we’re so ready.

Phone Me Back is out now.
