Sounds Like A Storm, Make It Better
Self-release
They probably get this a lot, but their bandname says it all, really – Sounds Like A Storm have just released calamitous single Make It Better, and it’s an emotional and sonic heavy-hitter. The torrential instrumentals are as dark as the lyrical content, which was written while vocalist Sennen Ludman’s dad was in hospital, so it’s a very personal release for SLAS, and they’ve definitely done the depth justice.
Concealed beneath the surging chords and captivating delivery, Sounds Like A Storm have constructed Make It Better’s soundscape out of a wealth of intricacies; the spiky bassline flickers between the melody’s shadows, driven along by the track’s oscillations between dense soundscape and sparse, stripped-back moments. Then, of course, cruising along the surface of the track, there’s Sennen Ludman’s immense vocal performance. Toeing the line between impassioned calls and groovy indie-rock intonations, lines like “nothing really hurts like love does, nothing feels as good as love” are absolutely ready to be shouted across academies and arenas.
Sounds Like A Storm haven’t teased anything further than this stomper of a single, but honestly, it’s exciting enough in itself. The cascading performance is tight, the song is undeniably massive, and it’s a mission statement from SLAS: make some noise on the scene, and make it loud.
Make It Better is out now.
