Here’s Why We Love The Big Moon

The Big Moon were set to have the brightest 2020: Walking Like We Do has had a brilliant reception garnering glowing reviews from across the board, the band went on tour with Bombay Bicycle Club and did subsequent solo victory lap – it feels like the covid-19 crisis couldn’t have come at a worse time for a band who should have had the chance to bask in their well-deserved success for longer. But it’s not stopped The Big Moon in their tracks at all.

They’ve just released the deliciously groovy Why as a single, the chipper piano underpinning whining guitars and high-pitched, Studio Ghibli-esque interjections, Juliette Jackson’s vocals bringing the whole mix together with magnetic self-assurance. Why epitomises the charisma of Walking Like We Do, and is the most irrefusable invitation to come and catch the band on tour possible.

For their biggest headline tour yet, the venues The Big Moon will be playing still feel too small to contain the energy they’re certain to bring – so the shows will be all the more intense, including a date at London’s iconic Forum and The Leadmill in Sheffield.

And if a single and a tour wasn’t enough, there’s more for The Big Moon fans in the lockdown age: they’re also releasing a track-by-track rundown of the record, so if you wanted some insight into what’s made it so irresistible, now’s your chance. As well as their podcast, there’s a TBM contribution on Songs For The National Health Service, too, amongst indie giants Foals, Wolf Alice, The Vaccines and more, all proceeds going to fund the NHS covid-19 effort via Hoods For Heroes.

The Big Moon’s single releases and podcasts are doing a good deal to keep us going through these times, but really, having a tour to look forward to at the end of it is the greatest they could possibly offer us – given how amazing their shows were earlier this year, it’s worth waiting for.

Why is out now, Songs For The National Health Service will be released later this year, and tickets for tour are available here.
