The Circuits, Like A Bird
Self-released

I won’t lie – it’s sort of weird when people you knew in school start to make music. At the same time, though, it’s strangely exhilarating seeing someone you once made weird YouTube videos with and sat next to in maths making genuinely heartfelt art that you’re sure will become vintage one day. It certainly gives you a bit of hope in this world, where life seems to be becoming less based on talent and more on connections and money. The Circuits create a fresh and innocent atmosphere, genuinely connected to their music and whole-heartedly believing in what they’re creating, which is refreshing among songs deadlocked on political peril.

It’s certainly true that their debut single, Like a Bird, inspires a new aspirational outlook, leading us to believe that this up and coming outfit are sure to find more gems in their guitar cases. This single slots in nicely against other indie artists that are flooding our ears at the moment, easily comparable to Two Door Cinema Club and Vampire Weekend. The sunny overtones of this track are hard to ignore – it’s the kind of song that makes you smile for no apparent reason, championing a coming-of-age blockbuster vibe that uplifts even the heaviest of moods. The echoes of melancholy nostalgia that haunt this track somehow create that honey-sweet and oh-so-sought-after image of summers spent on neighbours’ roofs and doused in flat lemonade.

Like a Bird is truly an ode to freedom, and, for the first time in a while, I’m excited to see what a band will do next.

Like A Bird is available on major streaming platforms now.
