Tokky Horror, I’ve Found The Answers And Now I Want More
Alcopop! Records

Dubbing themselves ‘virtual hardcore’, Tokky Horror’s debut EP I’ve Found The Answers And Now I Want More is a mind-bending 15-minute tornado of noise, fine-tuned to incite a kind of primal-yet-futuristic response that’s half-anxiety attack, half-desperate need to jump around in excitement. It’s the first offering from dream team Zee Davine of Queen Zee fame, with energy filled out by Mollie Rush and Ava Akira.

IFTAANIWM is non-conformist hyper-pop – dare we label it hyper-punk? Flippant vocal delivery, relentless drum-beats and layers upon layers of swirling sound effects and electronica inject every track on the EP with ferocity, but there’s a precision to everything that goes into this chaotic sound. From the undercurrent of beeps in tumultuous opener Girl Racer to the liquid flicker of Godliness, Tokky Horror have tapped into influences from across the electronic music spectrum to make something otherworldly and addictively detailed.

There’s something very disconcerting about everything about IFTAANIWM – especially with headphones on. It feels like it goes beyond immersive – it’s a sonic kidnapping down a rabbit hole of glitchy beats and giddy riffs… and then it becomes Stockholm Syndrome. From the deep end we’re very much thrown in in Girl Racer, Tokky Horror deviously drag us through the sounds of the album with no warnings whatsoever about whatever’s just round the corner. Simulate Me’s guitar riff sounds almost familiar but quickly turns into a video game; surreal highlight Eden On Acid is so close to being comprehensible but of course, needs some dizzy disruption.

And even in an EP that’s so strange, Tokky Horror have managed to ensure that there’s variety. It’s a totally gripping debut, shattering boundaries and promising greatness yet to come.

I’ve Found The Answers And Now I Want More is out this Friday.
