Beabadoobee, Last Day On Earth
Dirty Hit

Surely beabadoobee should be having a rest after the way she turned up the energy for her storm of a debut album fake it flowers, which came out just last year. But no, she’s back today with a tune that just glitters, and news of an EP, Our Extended Play, due out this spring co-written and produced with The 1975’s Matty Healy and George Daniel, bringing the magic the way they always do with their Dirty Hit protegées.

Packed with shoo-be-doos, muted guitar melodies and shimmering production, Last Day On Earth is quintessential bea. She’s definitely not returned to the bedroom-pop completely, she’s far too big a pop star by now to be boxed in so small again, but she’s definitely dialled back the grunge to make something that feels just as intimate as the songs that had us all falling in love with her in the first place. The moody serenity of the guitars glows behind her satin vocals, with a silvery lilt reminiscent of labelmates Pale Waves, but with an unmistakeable beabadoobee charm.

The 1975’s influence shines, a perfect match for beabadoobee’s authenticity and charm – there’s vocal flows here and there that could have stepped right out of A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships or even the 1975’s self-titled debut, and bea delivers them with style. She tells the story with grace and effortless charisma, polished up by the sparkling production into a really gorgeous tune. Our Extended Play looks set to be the product of a dreamy fusion of talents, and we cannot wait.

Last Day On Earth is out now.
