beabadoobee, Talk
Dirty Hit

beabadoobee welcomes you to Beatopia with latest single Talk. Her next album is on the way, and she’s inviting us to join her very own world, one that’s both cosy and expansive, and just about adjacent to this one – but with a bit of a shimmer over the top. Beatopia follows up the grungey cementing of her sound that came on her beautiful 2020 debut LP fake it flowers, and it looks like it blends it with the magic of last year’s Our Extended Play too. It’s a cocktail that’s bea all over, and so far, seems delightful.

There’s a lot of facets to beabadoobee – charming, smiling humbleness, versus moody, fuzzy rockstar. She’s expert at flicking between the two, especially in her captivating and dreamy live show, but Talk is the first time she’s brought the two halves together so closely and so clearly. In a glimmer of 90s drums and driving guitars, she tells a simple story – going out on a Tuesday. But it’s so real, delivered in such a haze of nostalgia and youthful excitement and subtle caution. Talk is dense with hype and laissez-faire energy, but there’s the undercurrent of uncertainty there too. Is this the right thing to do? Bea doesn’t care – it’s a two-sided coin of self-indulgence and joy, and self-destruction. It’s all too relatable, delivered delightfully.

Beatopia is coming in July, and comes alongside the news of her biggest headline tour to date, as well – this is a world we’re ready to immerse ourselves in. And Talk is a mission statement that promises that while Beabadoobee is scaling up her sound, her authenticity and charm remains absolutely intact, if not even more prevalent.

Beatopia is out July 15th.
