We’ve run through the best Quarantine Covers our favourite artists have had to offer a couple of times now, and as we hit month three of lockdown, there’s one Phonograph favourite rising above all the rest when it comes to their covers. Today’s article celebrates the wonderful Blossoms, and the tunes they’re blessing our ears with – here’s our top picks!
The Less I Know The Better
We’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating – Blossoms’ (and Miles Kane’s) take on the Tame Impala classic is a woozy few minutes of gold.
Dreaming Of You
This The Coral cover features their very own James Skelly, and it’s every bit as groovy as the original. They’ve thrown a trombone into the mix for a track that’ll have you toe-tapping and bopping your way through lockdown with glee.
Please Don’t
Fellow Mancunian icon Liam Fray of the Courteeners makes an appearance on this one, a faithful cover of his utter anthem. Heartstring-tugging harmonies and sharp chordal punctuation mean that this rendition of Please Don’t is both as raw and as tight as the original.
Paperback Writer
The cover that started it all – we’ve got to mention Paperback Writer. Blossoms twist up everything great about the Beatles and toss it back out with a wonderful Blossoms stamp.
You’re Gorgeous
Tom Ogden takes centre stage for the full version of what’s usually a Babybird snippet at the end of fan favourite My Favourite Room. It’s pure, it’s familiarly heart-warming, it’s magical.
