Happy Halloween from The Phonograph

Christmas might have the popular vote for best seasonal soundtrack, but our favourite artists are definitely giving it a run for its money this Halloween. Phonograph faves including Black Honey, Sundara Karma, Strange Bones and more and many more are releasing the goriest, most gorgeous spooky tunes, so we’ve rounded up the most essential listening.

Black Honey – I Like The Way You Die

The latest cut off of indie-punk powerhouses Black Honey‘s upcoming album is fierce, fanged, and a fuzzy delight.

Phoebe Bridgers – Halloween

Indie’s resident musician-to-cry-to’s track Halloween is perfectly pitched for this year – instead of celebrating properly we’re all trapped in our houses feeling melancholy, and Phoebe Bridgers couldn’t soundtrack it better.

Sundara Karma – Kill Me

The return of Sundara Karma is anthemic, huge, and positively reverberates with theatricality and joy. We’ll take any excuse to stick them on this playlist, and the fact that this song has the word ‘kill’ in the title is good enough for us!

Bad Sounds – Evil Powers

Another band who are mid-comeback at the moment – but Bad Sounds‘ Evil Powers is their ultimate, wavy, spooky classic.

Gerard Way – Baby You’re A Haunted House

Though, of course, best known for his also-Halloween-suited main band My Chemical Romance, emo hero Gerard Way’s foray into britpop in his solo work is just as fitting for our Halloween playlist.

Strange Bones – Menace (ft. Bob Vylance)

Strange Bones‘ latest is as vicious as ever – bone-rattling electro beats, tumultuous swaggering riffs, and a guest from the incredible Bob Vylance provide the goods this spooky season.

Declan Mckenna – Rapture

It came out in summer but Declan Mckenna‘s latest record Zeros still has us spellbound. A space-age rock opera floating through the moon and stars, it definitely zaps back down to earth on this one (the most terrifying lyric perhaps the one that references the ghoulish Margaret Thatcher).

Halloweens – Trophies For Pain

Ok, Halloweens are more enchanting than spooky, but they’re called Halloweens! You can’t leave them out – their dreamy discography is perfect for winding down and curling up no matter what season it is.

The Hunna – One Hell Of A Gory Story…

The Hunna‘s latest record is a terrifyingly dystopian ode to the Dark Times we’re trapped in currently, and sometimes it gets a touch close to home. I’d Rather Die Than Let You In’s opener One Hell Of A Gory Story… kicks the whole thing off.

Ashnikko – Halloweenie III: Seven Days

Rounding off this list, it’s the creepy queen of ballsy alt-rap – Ashnikko. The third instalment of her Halloweenie series slaps just as hard as you’d expect.
